US mills file hot-rolled steel trade case against Australia, Brazil, Japan, SouthKorea, Netherlands, Turkey and the UK, seeking anti-dumping duties of 20-200%. Also, counter-vailable penalties sought allege 33 subsidy programs inBrazil, Korea (41) and Turkey (17). It appears that petitioners have cast a widernet having included plate-in-coils as well.
Subject country imports of hot-rolledsheets (HRC) and plate-in-coils increased 73% from 2012-14 to 3.3m st. WithinDB coverage, largest HRC exposures are US Steel (35% of US flats in 2014),Nucor (~28%), Steel Dynamics (~24%) and AK Steel (~15%). Along with coatedand cold-rolled cases, ~25% of imports (8% HRC, 5% CRC, 9% coated and 3%plates) now targeted. If successful, US mills could wrest back ~8pp of lostmarket share, supporting domestic prices/profitability. (Companies, SBB, DB)
